Need info on how to start Atkins diet?
I know the basics… no carbs (or low carbs), so no bread potato’s, sugars, etc. So I have been eating a lot of green veggies and a lot of fruit… I have been eating grapes, cherries, grapefruit, apples, cucumbers, onions, peppers, spinach, eggs, cheese, chicken, and tuna. Someone told me not to eat any fruit for the first 2 weeks, but I like sweet stuff, so to calm my craving I will have a piece of fruit. Am I doing this diet right?

I know that 1 important issue with the atkins diet is to make sure you eat 5 meals a day at the right time every day. along with that make sure you portion control.
when i was on it, i tend to bbq mass amounts of chicken breast seasoned with Mrs Dash sodium free seasonings, and store it in the fridge. when meal time came around i would take 1 or 2 peices of chicken and nuke it and take a scoop of salad (chopped tomato, onion, jalapeno, cucumbers) and that would be my meal.
PS: stay away from carbs!!

Don’t do it!
Atkins diet is dangerous and downright unhealthy, and gives you bad breath!
You severely limit your options if you do it properly too because fruit contains natural sugars which are also carbs.
Stick to healthy balanced diet.
replace white bread, rice, pasta with brown., and cut down your portion size.
fill up on salads (without mayo dressings!) and steamed vegetables.
Plenty of grilled or steamed chicked, salmon, white fish.
no alcohol as this contains empty calories.
lots of exercise and drink water!

You should really read the book. At least visit the forums at lowcarber.org to get some information.
The idea of the first two weeks with no fruit is that you’re trying to get your body switched into ketosis. If you are eating cherries, grapes, and apples you’re consuming sugar and your body won’t go into ketosis and start burning fat. If you read the book you’ll see that it’s just for two weeks and why this is. You’ll also see which fruits are best to eat and which will make the diet completely useless to you.
If you really have a problem giving fruit up for even two weeks, maybe you could look into the South Beach diet? It’s a low carb diet as well but works a little differently. If you go to the forums at lowcarber.org they have forums for several different lowcarb diets and may be able to advise you.

Noooooooooooooooooo – It takes 3 days to convert your body to burning fat as it’s primary fuel, but only one bite to convert it back to sugar burning. You can have cheesecake or jello for something sweet or they have recipes for “chocolate” with coconut oil & cocoa & whey protein. After 2 weeks, if you have to have fruit, you need to stick with berries but then don’t complain if you don’t lose weight lol.
You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don’t eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you’ll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.
If you starve yourself by lowering calories lower than are needed for the body to function, your body will freak out and will want to store every ounce in case it doesn’t get nourished again. You need to give it adequate nourishment so it doesn’t slow your metabolism down to adjust for lower calories.
Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.
Carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want “something” have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won’t feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.
High insulin levels unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.
Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a “diet” Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Lutz “Life without Bread” & Taubes “Good calorie, bad calorie” are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.
Reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass will have you in awesome shape in no time. Good luck!
